Things to do in Kingscliff NSW

Top Things to do in Kingscliff NSW

As you know we love promoting local things to do in and around our beautiful, luxury, beachfront holiday home – La Maison Pacifique – in Casuarina so we have had a chat to another local – Carla – and put together for you “Carla’s Top things to do in Kingscliff” NSW.

Firstly though – a little about Carla.  Carla is a local business owner – of the store “On Kliff” on Marine Parade in Kingscliff.  As a long term resident and friend of many, Carla’s is the place to shop for the latest fashion in Northern NSW (at least we think so!).  As a fashion designer herself – and with her own label – Mode Village – where all her fashions are manufactured locally on the Gold Coast, Carla has a unique eye and a stylist’s approach to making her clients look great.  One thing I really appreciate when I visit Carla is that she is not shy about saying what styles and fashions would suit you best – and she is right too!

The benefits of Carla being a designer (plus stocking other labels), is that her stock is refreshed weekly.  She has just received a great shipment of new boots (I mean, who doesn’t love a good shoe!), ready in time for the winter season.  A visit to On Kliff is a must with any visit to Kingscliff!

So, what are Carla’s top tips for Kingscliff?

Top Restaurants around Kingscliff NSW

Top Restaurant – Hard to choose as there are so many great choices, but Spice Den in Casuarina is an absolute favourite.  With its sheer curtains, den-like atmosphere and wonderfully prepared food (sourced locally), the Spice Den is a must try on any visit to Kingscliff.

A close second for Carla is Steven Snow’s Fins Restaurant at Salt, Kingscliff.  Situated in the line of restaurants, cafes and shops as part of the Salt complex on Bells Parade, Fins offers a great seafood experience, amazing wine list and knowledgeable staff.  After the incredible success of their pop-up restaurant Pequena in late 2013, this was recently reopened as Izakaya – a Japanese eating house which offers a share style food experience.

Both Spice Den and Fins are incredibly busy year-round so it is important to book both the them in advance so you don’t miss out!

Top Bars in Kingscliff

They serve great cocktails at the Spice Den, and of course Izakaya offers the Japanese share-style food experience, but another great bar in the Kingscliff area is Babalou.  Situated down the road from Carla’s On Kliff, Babalou offers a fun, relaxed atmosphere with regular special events (everything from book club nights to wine tasting evenings) often with local bands playing.  One of the musts on my list is to pop down to experience their big breakfast (after a great night out), so add Babalou to your list of places to visit.

Top Cafes in Kingcliff

Ok, so it is not a full on, atmospheric dinner you are looking for but more of a casual meal – and in Kingscliff there are plenty of great ones you can choose from.  Carla’s first choice is always the Mockingbird Cafe, owned by the lovely Jo and her friendly staff.  Mockingbird, like many local cafes and restaurants, source the finest ingredients from the Northern Rivers food bowl, using local suppliers to ensure not just the freshest, but the best local produce is used in all their dishes.  Another must do experience.

What else is there to do?

Well apart from the water sports such as surfing, fishing, paddleboarding, swimming and canoeing, Carla’s favourite thing to do to keep fit is to hop on her bike and go for a ride.  But you say – “I didn’t bring my bike with me”.  No problem  -pop in to see Jeff at our favourite Cabarita Beach Cycles at Cabarita Beach.

For entertainment – there is of course the local Cinemax Cinema in Kingscliff, plenty of local bars and pubs that have local bands and open mic nights (Including White Jade Restaurant at Pottsville and Marty’s at Caba – Cabarita Beach).

…and of course from June to November each year, don’t forget to get a vantage spot on the coast and do a touch of whale watching!…
