Beach Holiday Tips for Summer

Kingscliff Beach NSW Information and Accommodation

Read on for the latest Kingscliff Beach NSW Information and Accommodation.

La Maison Pacifique provides luxury accommodation  in Casuarina New South Wales – a short distance from the delightful Kingscliff Beach.

Kingscliff’s first name was Sutherland Point when early settlers found a grave on the hill with the name Sutherland on it. In the early 1900’s the town was known as Cudgen before being renamed Kingscliff.

Kingscliff  is part of the Tweed Coast situated on the far north coast of New South Wales, about 30 minutes south of the Gold Coast and about 40 minutes North of Byron Bay. Kingscliff is two kilometres of golden sandy beaches stretching from Cabarita to Fingal.

Holidaymakers come to Kingscliff as it is a quiet place to stay and enjoy with their families yet close to major shopping centres at all the attractions of the Gold Coast just 30km away. Theme parks are 40 minutes drive. Gold Coast Airport is 20 minutes away.

As a quiet seaside town, its population is at its peak during holiday periods. The town boasts over 20 sidewalk cafes and is a great place for families to get away for a holiday, has quieter beaches than further up the coast and there are sheltered waters in Cudgen Creek should you have little ones wanting a paddle, or for a great physical workout a swim against the current.

Kingscliff offers a popular right hand surf break as well as a reef break both on south beach and also off the mouth of the creek for experienced surfers only.

The sheltered waters of the creek are also popular with locals and can get particularly busy in summer. Kingscliff has no high rise with a three storey limit on all buildings and far different to that of the Gold Coast, just 30km away.

Kingscliff has a boat ramp in Cudgen Creek, however the Creek mouth should only be attempted for experienced skippers. Most boaties launch at Fingal Head and boating is popular on the Tweed River. Visitors should seek advice on the conditions on the bar if going offshore. Beach fishing is popular with the Tailor Classic on in the June Long Weekend as well as beach fishing on South Beach.

Rich red fertile soil of Cudgen and the abundant sea-life on the coast of Kingscliff attracted the Tweed aboriginal clan of the Coodjingburra to settle in this area. They spoke the Bundjalung tongue and settled upon the coastal strip running from the Brunswick River to the Tweed River and then approximately fifteen kilometres inland to the now present site of Murwillumbah.

The headland at Kingscliff was an important meeting place for this clan, with numerous middens near the beach proving testimony to the fine fishing and many corroborees.

It is blessed with a magnificent stretch of north facing beach that extends to Fingal Head and a beautiful estuary attracts families and fishermen. The lush farmlands of Cudgen and Duranbah are minutes from the beach and are the source of many ingredients used by the towns’ collection of talented chefs.

Kingscliff has a range of shops, galleries and services. The Pub, Surf, Bowls and Leagues Clubs offer a range of entertainment and meals.

You can enjoy a range of Kingscliff Beach walks – download the maps here and walk to the nearby Fingal Lighthouse. The average temperature is 24 degrees celsius. More Kingscliff weather information here.

The beach is patrolled at allocated times and is great for surfing, rock fishing, swimming or just soaking up the sun. The right-hand break at Kingscliff, which starts working at less than a metre, holds up for all tides.  Various water sports, canoeing, crab fishing and River cruises are available on the nearby Tweed River.

The beaches in this part of the world all bear the “Made in Heaven” brand name – a series of long, golden sweeps cradled between headlands with world-class surf breaks and a reef break on the southern edge of Kingscliff.
