Casuarina NSW Australia Information
Casuarina is a town of approximately 1,700 people in far north-eastern New South Wales, Australia in the Tweed Shire.
It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean to the East and Cudgen Creek to the West. Casuarina is located 659kms north-east of Sydney, 21kms south of the Queensland border and 121 kms south of Brisbane.
At the 2011 ABS Census, Casuarina had a population of 1,661 people, although this is expected to grow substantially with the development of the Miramar Estate bordering Casuarina Way and The Village Estate to its immediate south.
Casuarina boasts a wonderful climate with its beachfront location and is well located with a 15 minute drive to a busy domestic and international airport (Gold Coast Airport), is surrounded by world-heritage listed national parks and is one of the most affordable places to live on the East Coast of Australia.
Nestled between bustling Kingscliff and the relaxed pace of Cabarita Beach, Casuarina also boasts its own services as the home of the Spice Den Restaurant (in the Santai Resort), and at nearby Casuarina Domain you will find the Osteria Restaurant, Casuarina Beach Recreation Club (with a range of great facilities including gym, pool and tennis courts) and the Surfing Australia High Performance Centre.
Local wedding planner, Casuarina Weddings caters for all bridal couples organising their own destination wedding and the Spice Den and Osteria are their venues of choice.
Work has recently begun on the new Town Centre at Casuarina (next door to the Santai Resort) which will boast a new generation Coles supermarket, specialty shops, a cafe, child care centre and office space. Designed to be the local neighbourhood hub, this boutique sized centre will provide daily needs, ready to cater for the increased population with all the seaside development blocks at The Village and Miramar Estates which are selling fast. It is expected that this new Town Centre will be open for business in mid-late 2014.
In the meantime, residents and visitors have a choice of two Woolworths supermarkets – one at Kingscliff and the recently opened Cabarita Beach store. The new shopping complex at Woolworths Cabarita is developing with more retailers due to open their doors soon. However, many long-standing local shops are still great value with favourites including the Caba Bakehouse, Cafe Mod Barista (great breakfasts), and Cabarita Beach Cycles. The Stunned Mullet is great for some Fish and Chips, Marty’s at Caba perfect for lunch or dinner (and with live music 4 nights a week). You can always get a great meal at the Cabarita Beach SLSC.
For a bit of pampering you can’t miss The Workshop on the main road into Cabarita Beach (on the left as you head south from Casuarina) and we are eagerly awaiting the renovation of The Hideaway – which will be Cabarita Beach’s own 5 star boutique luxury resort and beachfront wedding venue.

There is a great beachfront boardwalk which stretches from Cabarita Beach in the south and north all the way through to Kingscliff township. It is a great option for bike riders and you pass by Casuarina and Salt, Kingscliff as you travel north.
Watersports are in abundance in the local area with the local Watersports Guru and in2surf offering a range of activities and you can also book surfing lessons through the Surfing Australia High Performance Centre.
Casuarina is a perfect location holiday and/or wedding location as it allows the best of both worlds. Nestled between the bright lights of the Gold Coast in Queensland and the chilled out Byron Bay in NSW, it has easy access to both regions, whilst retaining its own beachfront charm. There are a number of accommodation options from the Cotton Beach Apartments, Santai Resort through to townhomes in the Casuarina Domain and luxury beachfront holiday rentals scattered throughout the area.
